Fairfield High School

      Careers Guidance

Fairfield High School for Girls is committed to providing a high quality Careers Education, Information and Guidance entitlement to all pupils. Curriculum delivery of CEIAG is through our well established Life Skills program of study from Year 7 upwards. Topics that pupils study include:

      • Identifying their own strengths and matching these to possible career pathways
      • Researching career pathways of interest to each individual pupil
      • Planning progression routes from KS3 to KS4 and into beyond
      • Maintaining a Record of Achievement
      • Writing CVs and letters of application

Beyond the taught curriculum, we have a CEIAG Progression Advisor who seeks actively to raise pupil aspiration and to provide Information and Guidance to pupils on a one to one basis. We also provide all pupils with access to an external, impartial Careers Advisor for personalised advice. While focusing on older pupils, a Drop-In service allows all pupils to access the information they need.

We have effective partnerships with Higher Education providers and businesses too.

Local colleges are regularly involved in providing our pupils with information and guidance about the options pupils have beyond the age of 16. Pupils and their parents can meet representatives from some colleges at our Progression Evening in Year 9, when pupils are considering their option choices for KS4 study. Our College Convention exposes Year 11 pupils to a wider range of colleges and further information about academic and vocational pathways post-16.

Both in our taught curriculum and beyond, Work-Related Learning is a key part of our provision. For example, all Year 10 pupils undertake a week long Work Experience placement. Year 11 pupils also receive a ‘Mock Interview’ with interviewers from a range of employment sectors, who provide subsequent feedback to individual pupils in order to help them develop both their interview technique and skills for employability.
